The 9,000 mAh Na+ sodium ion backup battery is the world's first safe and environmentally friendly product.

Japanese electronics accessories brand Elecom has just introduced a sodium ion backup battery, which it claims is the world's first for consumers. Called the Na+ Sodium Ion Portable Battery, this 9,000 mAh battery promises to create a breakthrough in the field of portable batteries.
Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, which rely on scarce metals like lithium and cobalt, sodium-ion batteries use sodium, which is more abundant and easier to find. This not only reduces the environmental impact of mining, but also makes the manufacturing process cleaner. Adopting sodium-ion technology could reduce pressure on the supply chain and limit the environmental issues associated with battery manufacturing.
One of the standout features of this power bank is its ability to operate in extreme temperatures. While lithium-ion batteries typically stop working in cold temperatures, sodium-ion batteries can operate efficiently in temperatures as low as -35°C and as high as 50°C. This makes it an ideal choice for those who frequently engage in outdoor activities in harsh climates.

Sodium ion technology also offers safety benefits. Lithium-ion batteries are at risk of overheating and catching fire, while sodium ion batteries are more stable, reducing the risk of losing control of their temperature. Elecom says the power bank can be charged for up to 5,000 cycles, about 10 times longer than conventional lithium-ion batteries, before degrading.
The Na+ power bank also supports USB-C PD with up to 45W of power, enough to power smartphones, tablets, and some laptops. It also has an 18W USB-A port for added versatility. However, this product is quite heavy, weighing up to 350 grams, with dimensions of 87 x 31 x 106mm.
Elecom is currently selling the Na+ Portable Battery in two colors: black (DE-C55L-9000BK) and light gray (DE-C55L-9000LGY) for 9,980 yen (about 1.7 million VND).
